Footwear trainer to teach students how to fight back in Canada

The Footwear Trainer is a trainer in Toronto who has developed a training regimen to teach Canadians how to defend themselves in Canada. 

“We’re trying to teach the people to protect themselves, so we’re giving them a sense of what to expect,” he said.

“In a lot, if not all cases, it’s a situation where you’re being threatened or you have to defend yourself, so that’s what we try to do.””

Chris is a self-described “bully” who is a proponent of self-defense training.

He says he’s been training for years and that he’s seen a dramatic increase in crime in the past year in Toronto.

“I’ve seen a rise in homicides and assaults, and I’m wondering, what is going on here?

I mean, this is a city that’s supposed to be a great place to live and to work and to visit,” he told CBC News. 

A video of his training has been viewed more than 2 million times on Facebook.

Chris says he has heard the same thing from a few students in the last year.

“You know, when I first started training in 2013, I didn’t think much of it.

I thought, ‘Oh, you’re doing a good job, this isn’t that big of a deal,'” he said, explaining that it’s important to teach people the importance of self defense.”

There’s a lot to learn and we’ll be teaching that, but also to be honest, there are things that people can do that don’t seem to matter that matter to the police, like go out, get a drink or take a drug and get arrested,” he added.

Chris is one of the trainers at the Toronto Police Service who has been training officers on self-protection.

“It’s really good for police officers,” he explained.

“I mean, if they don’t have their own weapon, they can rely on us.” 

One of the biggest misconceptions about self- defence in Canada is that you need to use violence to defend oneself. 

But according to Chris, self- defense isn’t the only way to fight.

“That’s one of my big lessons is you have two things that you can do,” he continued.

“And one of them, you have the option to defend your life. “

“If you want to be safe, you should have a gun or a knife and you should be able to defend it,” he concluded. “

There are a number of programs in Toronto that teach people self-help and self-deployment, but Chris says the most effective program for police is the self-esteem training program at Toronto’s Downtown Eastside.””

“What we’ve done is teach them to identify, recognize, identify, and then work to build confidence, so they can do those things that they can’t do on their own, which is protect themselves,” he noted.
